What should have been an easy dig up along the side of the road turned into a struggle for the workers trying to lay a new water supply pipeline from the National University of Samoa campus all the way to the main road.
The Samoa Water Authority pipeline workers ran into hard bedrock when they started digging and it has turned what was supposed to be an easy dig up into a surprising challenge.
The pipeline will replace the old one running under the road from the large water tank reservoir at the top of the hill that would require digging up the road to fix the leaks.
“ The old pipeline is still in use to continue the water supply to the main feed running along the main road to residential areas at Vaivase- tai, Moata’a, Fagali’i, Vaimauga and around that area,” a SWA project spokesman explained.
Once the new pipeline is completed the old system will close down and the water supply switched over to the new one.
The work is due to be completed this month of August giving much need relief from digging up the busy road every time there is a leak in the pipeline below.
Consumers along the heavily populated residential area will also be assured of an improved water supply system.
