The new American Samoa Governor and Lieutenant Governor, taking over of office at the start of last weekend, drew public attention on the local political front.
Both the Prime Minister, Fiame Naomi Mata’afa and opposition leader, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, attended the inauguration ceremony on Friday morning.
Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula and lieutenant Governor Pulu Ae Ae Jr, were congratulated and offered best wishes by the two political leaders from Samoa.
The common ancestry and heritage of the two Samoas were emphasised by Governor Pulaali’i with the old saying, ‘Blood is thicker than water’, in his inauguration speech.
Close cooperation on trade, civil aviation and labour mobility were among some of the future goals for the two sides to strive for.
PM Fiame was accompanied by her Ministry’ CEO Agafili Shem Leo and Consul General Fata Brian Kaio.
Opposition leader Tuilaepa traveled with party deputy leader Lauofo Fonotoe Pierre Meti, General Secretary, Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi and senior party MP Peseta Vaifou Tevaga.
