Suspended Faleata No.3 Member of Parliament Lealailepule Mr. Rimoni Aiafi is back after his 24 hour suspension from the House yesterday, Monday 32 January 2022.
Speaker Papali’i Taeu Masepa’u took the high moral ground to ‘forgive and forget’ any show of disrespect by the MP in the interest of Parliament moving forward.
MP Lealailepule apologised and regretted the uttering of any show of disrespect to the Speaker and member of the House.
The suspension was the first time for the MP in well over 10 years as a Parliamentarian and he expressed remorse at his reaction which he said was at the shock of his dismissal.
The MP was forced out of the Parliament session in a vote of the Government dominated House for the violation of Standing Orders.
Speaker Papali’i ruled that the MP commented in public on an inquiry report against specific orders for members to refrain from doing so.
The MP’s apology was accepted by the Speaker and proceedings in the House resumed with Cabinet Ministers responding to matters raised by members on the Supplementary Budget debate.
