New Prison and Correction Officers recruit group following their swearing in at the District Court today

Most of the 15 new officers sworn in today for prison and correction duties by the Samoa Police, Prisons and Correction Services turned out to be women.
Judge Loau Donald Kerslake, swore in 9 females and 6 male officers in the District Court
“They are to protect and ensure the safety and better management of inmates under their care within Tanumalala, Olomanu and Vaiaata” and to protect and ensure the safety of the community from them (inmates),”Judge Kerslake highlighted.
“You have pledged to serve with honesty, honour and just accordingly to the laws and in serving the Ministry.
“Support each other in the work that you do-work as a team, respect your leaders and the authority. Always be fair, consistent and critical”.
Deputy Commissioner for Prisons and Corrections Services, Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga, and his Senior Management staff attended the swearing in.
Families and friends were present as well to witness the special moment when their loved ones took their oath, to become prison and correction officers.
The Prison and Correction Services recruits carried out their training and assessments separately from the Samoa Police recruits for the first time.
Their swearing in at the District Courts was another first.
The fifteen recruits will have their graduation ceremony on the 17th of May, 2023, held at the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (MESC) Samoa Culture and Arts Center at Malifa.
