General elections, domestic violence and the COVID-19 pandemic are among the top concerns on the watch list this year for Government village representatives.
The Minister of Women and Social Community, Tuitama Dr. Talalelei Tuitama, made the emphasis for village representatives who packed the Ministry Conference Hall this week.
The Ministry scheduled the gathering to crank up the networking with village representatives who are the link between Government and the traditional leadership of chiefs and orators as well as the women groupings in the villages.
“Be reminded that we are all public servants regardless of the roles we are expected to carry out in our national development to benefit everyone,” Tuitama reminded the huge crowd.
He called on everyone to be mindful of the general elections in April and the need for to encourage village leadership to maintain peace and calm.
The Minister took note of the embarrassing image of domestic violence in the villages that are being widely reported outside Samoa.
“It is time for the villages to enforce strict rules against domestic violence where the women and children are the victims as well as those with special needs.”
Tuitama gave a firm reminder for villages to maintain protective healthy awareness habits against the risks of serious diseases like the coronavirus pandemic and its new variant.
The Minister is retiring from a long and successful career in politics and he wished success to the work commitment for everyone in 2021.
