The Ministry of Education or MESC should have a better understanding of free WIFI connections offered to Savai’i schools, from a project inspection visit underway today, Thursday 24 Sept. and tomorrow, Friday 25 Sept.
The MESC Chief Executive Officer, Afamasaga Karoline Fuata’i and other senior ministry officials are looking at the schools a private communications company has reportedly hooked up in Savaii.
NETVO Samoa has announced connecting more than 50 schools on the big island to receive WIFI Internet links.
The newly formed political party FAST is jointly involved in the project that has already raised Government concerns for not following the proper legal process.
The Ministry of Education and the Office of the Regulator were reportedly not consulted for legal approval.
Safety and security issues are worries for Government especially to make sure the school kids do not access indecent materials off the WIFI links.
The MESC inspection team is included in the Cabinet Development Committee, CDC, two day visit to Savaii as part of an on site visit of Government funded projects on the island.
The CDC visits are scheduled on a regular basis around the country to follow up on the progress of development projects underway.
All heads of Ministries and Government owned enterprises and their senior staff join the Cabinet during the visits.
CDC visits are designed to offer Cabinet an up-close review of the projects underway and to look into what is needed to improve on the work.
Ministry CEOs and Heads of Government Corporations have to be close at hand to provide project information for Cabinet and to look at necessary actions to improve on the project work.
Similar on-site visits are also carried out in Upolu to alternate with scheduled inspections in Savaii.
