Doctors and nurses honoured the passing of Tuigamala Dr. Dean Stanley with a strong turnout at his funeral service on Thursday 16 June 2022.
The 63 year old died from a long illness and his body was laid to rest at his To’omatagi village home.
His pallbearers were doctors who carried the casket from home to the nearby village church and back to his final resting place at the end of the funeral service.
Dr. Stanley, as many know him by, was an anesthesiologist at the Tupua Tamasese Hospital.
He worked his way up to the top of the administrative ladder as head of Health Services in the Ministry of Health for a short while before stepping down to continue with his medical responsibilities.
His resounding legacy in the profession came in 2005 when doctors went on a job strike but he decided to stay back.
Working closely with the nurses the priority was on the care of the sick in the hospital and the country at large.
Dr. Stanley is survived by his wife Faalagilagi, a nurse, and 5 daughters.
He was in the second wave of Samoan doctors who studied and graduated from the Papua New Guinea School of Medicine.
