A home backyard chili garden is turning into a feeding paradise for this ‘Manu Tagi’ or purple crowned fruit dove, showing (photo) her head above the branches.
The bird is one of a growing flock of other winged flyers swopping in for a quick red chili feed before flapping off.
After long observations by Newsline Samoa bird photographer, it became obvious that the preference is for chilli that turns red,
The ones still green are left untouched.
See what you can make of this interesting note of facts Google offered on the birds preference for red chili…
“ Some bird species are known to eat red chili peppers. The heat from the peppers does not affect birds in the same way it does humans, as they are not sensitive to capsaicin, the chemical compound that makes peppers spicy. In fact, some birds such as finches and parrots are known to have a preference for spicy foods.”
