Three days of collecting information from a traffic count survey in Savaii should bring the Land and Transport Authority closer to building better roads in the future for the big island.
The 3-day survey on Thursday, Friday and Saturday was set up in three separate locations or stations along the main road at Salelologa and Salelavalu on the Upolu side of the island.
The third station at Falealupo was at the opposite end of the island.
In each of the stations vehicles were pulled over to the side at random and the occupants asked a set of questions like where they were going.
Feedback on road conditions was encouraged while taking a quick count of people in the car at the same time.
Data from the information collection exercise will give LTA a better understanding of the kinds of roads the island needs, construction and upgrade needed.
Police were also around to give a helping hand with their presence.
LTA staff have been keeping close watch on the roads in both islands in recent weeks for the safety of travelers from pouring rainfall conditions.
Many of the flooded sections of the road mostly at ford crossings and flooding rivers were quickly reported for public safety information.
LTA teams were on standby with road contractors to move in quickly to clear the roads of flood debris and keep it safe and open for travel.
