Leiataua Samuel Phineas stays on at the Samoa Shipping Corporation, SSC, for a second contracted term of 3 years as General Manager.
Cabinet approved the strong recommendation by the selection panel for the re-appointment of Leiataua to continue as head of the corporation.
Leiataua first took over as SSC boss in May 2020 following years of services as a seafarer, National University of Samoa lecturer and Operations Manager for the Office of Tokelau affairs.
He also served as an A.C.E.O. at the Samoa Shipping Corporation.
Leiataua resides with his wife and children at Fa’ato’iaalemanū and also hails from the village of Lepuia’i, Manono.
The SSC is primarily responsible for keeping inter-island travel flowing on the busy route between the Mulifanua and Salelologa wharves.
It also keeps a regular weekly service between Apia and Pago Pago for the two Samoas.
During his first contract term, Leiataua has overseen major improvements in meeting the demands of the service on the domestic routes.
The recent deployment of newer and bigger vessels for sailings between Upolu and Savai’i Islands, have improved travel noticeably with easier and quicker access and less waiting times for the general public.
