The US Pacific Fleet Band, is on a weeklong visit of jazz performances in Samoa to be highlighted by the celebration of the International Jazz Day on 30th April 2024.
The musical group has lined up performances in “various locations throughout Upolu, in schools, community centers, and public venues.”
Jazz music is being promoted by organisers of the band visit as “…. a universal language of peace, unity, and dialogue among cultures,” and International Jazz Day promotes “..intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, and international cooperation.”
“Music transcends cultural boundaries and brings people together through the universal language of music,” US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, Ms. Noriko Horiuchi, underlined as the reason behind organising the band’s musical tour.
“It serves as a tool for cultural exchange, fostering understanding and collaboration amongst diverse cultures.”
The U.S. Pacific Fleet Band is based in Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, and “…..has performed in countries around the world, using music as a bridge to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.”
“We are thrilled to be in Samoa to celebrate International Jazz Day and share our music with the people of this beautiful country,” said Chief Vincent Moody.
“Music has the power to break down barriers and bring people together, and we are honored to be a part of this global celebration of unity and diversity.”
