The Samoa Victim Support Group, SVSG, is to build two new shelters worth close to half a million tala for victims of abuse.
Sa’asaai Primary School is getting a new hall and toilet facilities to cost close to $243 thousand tala.
Funding for the two separate projects is coming from the Japan Grass-Roots Human Security Project.
Japan’s Ambassador to Samoa HE Mr. Terasawa signed over the funding documents with officials undertaking each project.
The SVSG shelters “aims to provide protection facilities for the most vulnerable population particularly women and children who have suffered from domestic violence and sexual abuse,’ a statement from the Japanese Embassy in Apia explained.
The Sa’asaai Primary School project is to cater for many school activities including school assemblies, cultural programs, prize giving to name a few.
Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects aims to support small-scale projects directly benefitting the grass-roots level as well as contributing to the socio-economic development of the Independent State of Samoa.
The Government of Japan welcomes the opportunities to further work in partnership with the Government of Samoa with a view to advancing human security and community development projects at grass-roots level.
