Construction of a new college hall and recycling facility as well as rescue equipment costing a total of close to $1.4m tala will be paid by Japan in Samoa.
The 3 projects are funded separately under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.
Japan’s Ambassador to Samoa, H.E. Mr. TERASAWA Genichi, signed the official documents for the grants at the Embassy in Apia today, Wednesday 10 March 2021.
Aana No.1 College School Committee received a grant of up to USD 218,136(approximately SAT 551,000) for the project implementation to construct a school hall. This project aims to provide a much needed facility to accommodate College gatherings and assembling activities.
Samoa Recycling and Waste Management Association received a grant of up to USD 190,123 (approximately SAT 482,000) for the project implementation to construct a recycling facility. The facility will be used for processing recyclable waste materials and storing of recycling machinery. The Association promotes recycling activities with support by various development partners such as the UK, UNDP and JICA.
Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority received a grant of up to USD 140,120 (approximately SAT 336,000) for the procurement of second-hand emergency vehicles (a rescue truck and three ambulances) and two new rescue boats to enhance standards of the vital service provided by the authority. These second-hand vehicles which were formerly used in Japanese local public organisations will be reconditioned and brought to Samoa through the Society of Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy.
