…. if this was a throw back to the times of our voyaging Polynesian ancestors, this would be a momentous occasion, as they made their way into the Apia Harbour.
Imagine if this was a live scene of the fleet landing our ancestors for the first time in Samoa. What would the moment be like for them after surviving for months at sea on a voyage into the unknown and to end up discovering Samoa?
The leading boats with the leader of the fleet standing on the rooftop of the small shelter of the double-hulled boat is a sight to behold.
The others standing ready on his side as if poised for whatever come, completes this breath taking moment in history. If only we were there to witness it.
BUT the truth though is these are our alia-fishing fleet returning to the mooring jetty behind the Savalalo Fish Market.
They were coming in after a boat clean up out just beyond the mouth of the harbour. Still the heart skipped as the imagination kicks in while watching them come in as a fleet.
