Confidence at the unwavering support of the ‘silent majority’ continues to bubble for the opposition Human Rights Protection Party, HRPP.
The lasting trust inside Samoa and the diaspora in the former ruling party, is on its achievements and proven credibility in the 40 years of Government rule.
Former Prime Minister and HRPP leader, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegoi, made the point to re-assure members, at the annual meeting of the party at the Maota i Petesa headquarters on Thursday.
“We know of this lasting trust by the majority at the overwhelming show of support for any undertaking or fundraising by the party,” Tuilaepa gave as proof of the backing.
His main concern, however, is not to abuse this public confidence with misleading offers and untruthful rhetoric.
Tuilaepa admitted there are many who are easily swayed by their innocence, and it happens everywhere in the world.
The millions of Jews killed in the German holocaust from the misleading lies by Hitler was an extreme example.
“There is a saying about believing in your own lies after repeatedly saying it over and over to yourself.
“Despite all the ‘stories’ made up about the HRPP to the diaspora, our credibility remains.
“The ‘silent majority’ appreciates the immigration quota we worked to make travel possible for them including those earning from the RSE Scheme we set up.”
Tuilaepa went on to appeal for party members to keep the peace and maintain harmony in the families and village communities.
He urged everyone to live within the teachings of the Christian faith.
The HRPP meeting was joined by party cell members set up in the main cities in Australia and New Zealand.
All were able to participate by watching and listening via electronic zoom to the exchanges inside Petesa.
Tuilaepa was also able to answer all questions they raised at the current state of the and were fully reassured it is going well.
The meeting made one main change to the constitution and that is to re-establish the position of Party President.
The appointed role will be responsible for running and managing the affairs of the party with a full management staff to include a Secretary and Treasurer.
