World boxing champion Jai Opetaia is getting a hero’s welcome as an invited guest to the 60th independence anniversary celebrations starting this weekend.
The 27 year old Opetaia is the IBF World Cruiserweight title holder and is an Australian national with Samoan heritage.
He arrives in Samoa at an official invitation from the Minister of Tourism and is to be a guest at many of the planned activities of national celebrations.
The Samoa Boxing Federation is rolling out the red carpet for the boxing hero that includes a boxers march pass and a special message from the champion.
A school visit is also in his schedule of activities to attend.
Opetaia is the holder of the IBF and The Ring cruiserweight titles since July 2022.
As an amateur he won a bronze medal at the 2012 Youth World Championships and represented Australia at the 2012 Olympics and 2014 Commonwealth Games.
