Teachers inside the TATTE Convention Centre

Good school exam results gave a positive spin at the principal and head teachers’   annual conference at the TATTE Convention Centre last week.

The Ministry of Educations CEO Afamasaga Dr. Karoline Fuata’i went over the result graphs in the various course of study to show the rewarding results from the primary up to secondary levels.

Afamasaga agreed in her presentation that disruptions from the measles and the coronavirus over the 2019-2020 school period were difficult times for education.

Poor weather from climate change also forced schools to be closed for short periods.

“ But thank Heavens the exam results showed the determination and resolve in the teachers, students and of course the parents support,” Afamasaga beamed with relief.

She welcomed the difficulties schools went through as a learning curve where new ways of learning through other mediums available were adopted like radio, television and online links.

The resolve by everyone to overcome the disruptions to education was highlighted by the example of the Pacific Games when students were heavily involved at the expense of classroom learning.

“The results we have shows that the dream we have for the success of our children’s education can still me achieved despite serious health threats and other natural disasters.”

More than 100 principals and head teachers shared the gratifying moment during the conference that was called off last year by pandemic state of emergency restrictions.

‘Learning Today. Leading Tomorrow’ carried the main focus for everyone.

Minister of Education, Loau Keneti Sio, exhorted the teaching profession to be more responsible in their role to mold future leaders of Samoa.
