A man who became an iconic figure in financial matters for many years in Samoa, Mr. Alistair Leighton Hutchison, died peacefully at his home in Auckland, New Zealand on Wednesday 22 December 2021.

Hutchison served for many years as Financial Secretary for Samoa’s Treasury or what is now the Ministry of Finance or MOF.

He was widely known and respected by the local community during his long career as ‘Alisa’ or the Samoan version of his ‘palagi’ name Alistair.

Alisa was awarded the Order of Merit for outstanding services in Samoa before he and his wife, the late Tagaloa Kuinimere retired with their family back to New Zealand.

His three children, Aimiti, Alan and Semisi along with their families mourn his passing as well as relatives and friends in New Zealand, Samoa and around the world.

His funeral service is scheduled for this Friday 31 December 2021.

An expanded story of Hutchison’s time and prominent career contributions to Samoa is being put together by Newsline Samoa.
