Government has been asked to reconsider continuing with Daylight Saving.
On Tuesday last week the Ministry of Commerce Industry and Labour MCIL announced that it was a decision of Cabinet to discontinue Daylight Saving.
Lautafi Selafi Purcell the former Minister of MCIL in the HRPP government which introduced Daylight Saving said that he was taken by surprise by the present government decision.
He said Government must reconsider this decision and should ask itself whether they are making the right decision.
“I was taken by surprise. But I ask government to reconsider because Samoa is part of the global world and one of the countries which observe daylight saving.”
Lautafi said that continuing to observe daylight saving is important for plane schedules and other areas which are now programmed.
“ These will be very much affected with daylight saving out.”
The Chief Executive Officer CEO of MCIL, Pulotu Chu Ling could not give a firm reason behind the decision by government.
Daylight Saving Time is when countries who observe this tradition move their clocks forward by an hour at a certain period of time during the year and when that period ends the clocks are set back by an hour. This time cycle continues.
