Marseille, France – We are six days away from the Paris Olympic Games 2024 Opening, marking a historic moment as Samoa’s sailors take to the global stage.

The team, composed of sailors Vaimo’oi’a Ripley and Eroni Leilua, Olympic Coach Chris Russell, and Team Manager Raema von Reiche, is set to represent the nation with pride and determination.

Vaimo’oi’a, the trailblazing female sailor, and Eroni, her equally dedicated teammate, have been training tirelessly to bring honour to Samoa.

Vaimo’oi’a’s participation is particularly significant as she makes history as the first female Samoan sailor to compete in the Olympics.

Vaimo’oi’a had an 11-year break from the sport before returning to sailing in 2019 with renewed passion.

Her dedication has paid off, leading her to this remarkable achievement.

“Sailing is more than a sport to me; it’s a way of connecting with my heritage and representing my country on the global stage,” said Vaimo’oi’a.

Eroni has been working hard at this journey for over two Olympic cycles, showcasing exceptional skill and resilience.

“I am incredibly honoured and proud to represent my country at the Paris Olympics, especially as this will be my second time competing on this prestigious stage.

“This opportunity is a dream come true, and I am committed to giving my all in every moment.

“Competing at the Olympics is not just about personal achievement but also about inspiring the next generation and showcasing the talent and spirit of our nation.

“I am grateful for the support of my team, my family, and everyone who has believed in me,” said Eroni.

Together, Vaimo’oi’a and Eroni are ready to take on the world’s best sailors, carrying the hopes and dreams of Samoa with them.

Behind the scenes, Team Manager Raema von Reiche has been instrumental in coordinating the team’s efforts from Samoa, ensuring that every detail is meticulously planned.

“ Our team’s success is a collective effort, reflecting the dedication, passion, and resilience of everyone involved.

“I am proud of how far we have come and excited for what the future holds for Samoa sailing.”

Olympic Coach Chris Russell brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the team.

With a deep understanding of the sport and a commitment to excellence,

Chris has been guiding Vaimo’oi’a and Eroni through rigorous training sessions in-person and virtually, focusing on technique, strategy, and mental preparation.

“It has been a privilege to work with such dedicated and talented athletes.

“Our training sessions are designed to push the boundaries and ensure that the athletes are prepared for every challenge they might face at the Olympics.

“The journey to the Games is demanding, but with their determination and our comprehensive approach, I am confident that they will perform at their best and make Samoa proud,” said Chris.
