Families living inside the flood prone Vaisigano Catchment Area will soon be made to run for their own safety with the use of flood warning sirens.
The warning alerts will be set up in 5 locations to serve safety notice to the community when the water level rises.
The Electric Power Corporation (EPC) Tanugamanono Power Station, Apia Park and the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Culture compound, are the three locations within in the catchment area when the sirens will be installed.
Two others will be set up strategically in the Greater Urban township.
Fourteen (14) villages are within the high impact level of siren sounds inside the catchment area and all are aware of the warning system.
Officials responsible for setting up the sirens have been meeting this week with village representatives to go over the alert measures involved when the sirens go off.
The Ministry of Natural Environment, MNRE and the Green Climate Fund Project for then Vaisigano, are at the forefront of the sirens set-up.
The Ministry of Women Developments and Finance are behind the effort as well.
