Excavator in demolition work inside the fenced off old Savalalo Flea Market.

Demolition contractors are continuing their work inside the fenced off site of what was once the Savalalo Flea Market.
It is still unclear what is being officially planned for the site except for the controversy that continues to surround earlier plans by the previous Government under the HRPP to shift the Flea Market to new location.
The intention was for the centralised roading system to expand into the old side to allow a better flow of traffic held up in perhaps the worst bottled-necked section of the main Beach Road.
But plans for the new Flea Market relocation to the Fugalei Area, in anticipation of the development of the new Vaiusu Bay Harbour, fell through.
The new Government of PM Fiame Naomi Mataafa ‘pulled the plug’ on the previous Government plans and since then it is unclear what the new plans are for the old Flea Market location.
