
Chazaiah Toeosagone Komiti Faatonu Time has become the first ever boy dux for the Vaiala Beach School.
His history making academic success breaks the dominating hold by girls on the top student award every year since the school started.
This was the goal Chazaiah set for himself when he entered Year 8. He was also fired up to become the first head boy of the school to become dux.
Chazaiah won top honours in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Samoan and 3rd in Literacy.
While it was a proud day for Chazaiah’s family, it was overshadowed by heartbreak that his father was not there to celebrate with his son.
Chazaiah is the son of the late Gu Isamaeli Asotasi Time and Polataivao Sandra Semi.
His father passed away in early 2022 as he was starting up as a Year 5 student who was left heartbroken by the passing .
“For a long time, he was deeply downhearted and struggled to find his footing,” his mother Polataivao said.
“ It wasn’t until late 2023 that he began to regain his momentum, sparked by his decision to run as a Year 7 school prefect, a highly competitive role, with only one spot left to become one of only 6 prefects for the whole school.
“Building on his new found passion for leadership, he pushed further by campaigning in 2024 to be appointed school head boy.
His fighting spirit paid off when he took up the top role for 2025.”
Polataivao said that her son often shared with her the hard work he put in to win selection against his class rivals.
What is the talented and bright youngster’s ambition? To be selected for the national rugby league team Toa Samoa.
“ His true passion and future ambition is on the sports field. Like his late father, he carries a deep passion is to excel in sports.,” Polataivao said.
“He dreams of becoming the full back for Toa Samoa one day
Chazaiah will be attending Samoa College in 2026. He is from the villages of Vailele-Uta and Malololelei.
He is the eldest of two children. His sister is also a student of Vaiala Beach School.
