Auapaau Mr. Logoitino Filipo is the new Police Commissioner.
He takes over the role of top cop that has remained vacant since his predecessor Egon Keil resigned last year.
His rise to the top caps off 23 years of service as an officer of the law.
Commissioner Auapaau was given the Cabinet nod to head the Ministry of Police, Prisons and Correctional Services ahead of 6 other applicants.
He served for 4- years in the Solomon Islands on assignment to the regional body called for law enforcement duties on the island.
The new Commissioner appointment follows the interest in the recent session of Parliament at the delay.
Police Minister Lefau Harry Schuster blamed the delay on the backlog of Government CEOs waiting on the Public Service Commission to catch up with their work.
Commissioner Auapaau will be contracted for a 3-year term before he is required to re-apply for his job.
