The Falealupo diaspora maybe testing the patience of chiefs and orators at home with social media comments on the political affairs of the village that were inaccurate.
Social media assertions that there will be no by-election in Falealupo did not sit well with several village leaders.
“ There will be a by-election in Falealupo,” Aeau Alefosio left no doubt about it.
Aeau was a delegation member from the Savaii village who met the HRPP leaders in Apia at the start of the week and assured them of a party candidate for the by-election.
The Falealupo delegation rejected social media claims that Falealupo will vote in unopposed a FAST candidate.
The village leaders wanted also to confirm their support for the HRPP effort to restore the constitutional powers of the Head of State and mend the Constitution.
“We agree that the choice of any election is from God and anything forced is not from God, so we are returning to the polls,” Auva’a added.
The current political uncertainties the country is not a worry for Falealupo, according to the village leaders.
All agreed that the concerns by the present generation are far from the respect of early generations with the village forbears.
“But as village leaders we have already put the word out to the youth of Falealupo to keep the peace.
“Falealupo is calm and composed so there is little worry about, nothing is out of place.”
What Auva’a and the others are not too keen on is the disruptive influence of misinformation circulated on social media by the diaspora on the stability of the village.
The Falealupo leader is quick to blame the diaspora for creating tensions and frictions at home with the comments they make.
“ You’re the ones causing trouble for us. What you should do is to continue to live well and to always pray for God’s mercy and blessings on us at home.”
Auva’a also called on the prayers of the diaspora for the election of a suitable candidate to represent the constituency in Parliament.
Falealupo is one of the electoral constituencies that ended up in court on an election petitions against the winning HRPP candidate.
The court ruling has eventually led to the calling of a by-election after the winning candidate opted to resign her seat.
A by-election date is yet to be set for the Falealupo seat.
