The Government of Japan continues to lend its helping hand with reconstruction efforts in community projects at grass-roots level.
Fagalii Primary School successfully received their new school building that house eight classrooms, a library and staff room through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP).
His Excellency Mr. TERASAWA Genichi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa congratulated the completion of the project through a handover ceremony held earlier today (24 September) at the school compound, attended by the Hon. Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Fatialofa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi, Cabinet Ministers, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (MESC), School Committee, parents, principal, staff and students.
The School Committee received a grant of up to USD 96,525 (approximately SAT 255, 763) last September that had enabled the implementation of the project to replace their 50 years old school building.
Education is very vital in the development of any nation, and Japan continues to support projects like these to promote enhance learning.
In addition, to ensure the continuity of its assistance in building capacity developments of local teachers, the Embassy is in collaboration with MESC and JICA Samoa in dispatching volunteers in the fields of Mathematics and Science under Japan’s Overseas Cooperation Volunteers program.
A total of about 180 students and their teachers are expected to directly benefit from the project and Japan hopes that it will provide a safer and healthier learning environment for the community of Fagalii.
Japan’s assistance through its GGP epitomized Japan’s commitment to support efforts by the people of Samoa to ensure Human Security and to strengthen the warm and close relations between the people of Japan and the people of Samoa.
