The loudest laughter heard inside the TATTE Convention centre this week on Tuesday, is when a group of RSE workers were advised to ‘keep your eyes away from the women.”
The Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi blasted the mix of fatherly advise and scolding to one of the groups of RSE workers due to leave for New Zealand starting this Sunday weekend.
The lighthearted moment underlined the serious emphasis on local workers contracted for farm work in New Zealand to be at their best behaviour, work hard and behave smart.
Infidelity is a serious concern for Government with its disruptive effects on the families at home and when it carries over to poor work performance.
“We have wives who cry to Government for help when husband don’t send money home for their care,” PM Tuilaepa said.
“Government does not need that because it can lead to a bad reputation for us and affect work opportunities for other workers.”
Tuilaepa told the large group that women are distractions to their work and will lead to all kinds of complications with the work and the families at home.
Of the 2000 workers to be picked from all the islands under the RSE programme Samoa is allocated 800 workers.
The workers are divided into two traveling groups with a total of 624 altogether.
All are leaving on two chartered flights scheduled for the next two Sundays.
The balance of workers to follow is still to be finalised.
