You can either believe it or not but not all candidates are loyal to their political parties.
There are some who registered in Savaii last week who said they’re only in the party to get into the general elections.
Most fancy a good chance of winning.
If they do win that is when they will make their move to join the true political party they want.
Lets see how this is going to work. No party names for now except to say the candidates doing the talking are in smaller political parties.
If they win they want to switch to the bigger political party, which is their secret goal all along. Get the picture now?
The party switch is doable but it’s tricky.
Under the Electoral Act if the ‘small party’ you joined wins up to 8 candidates and you’re included, the party is officially recognised in Parliament.
When that happens you’re stuck with them. But if the party does not have the numbers it’s not recognised – that makes you a free bird.
Just make sure you make your party switch official before taking your oath as an MP.
But why join a political party when you can still run as an independent if the ‘big‘ political party cannot take you in for now, anyway?
“….hello, it’s called politics for a reason, dear.
