That village apology from ‘under the fine mat’ on the grass lawn of the Government building was a pathetic, sorry sight.
The noble act we hold in reverence as seen on that day had nothing to do with our honoured customs and culture of pleading for forgiveness.
The whole act by a handful of people was a shameful charade that quickly turned into a joking matter the public laughed at.
The joke was on the selling of the dignity of the village so as not to miss out on free money the Govt. has been dangling as a general elections carrot to win votes.
Oh the shame of selling our respected customs and tradition for a few tala that will be long forgotten when the next general elections come around!
Maybe Stui should have made a similar offer to avoid being battered all over the social media by angry reactions similar to the village chief who supposedly expressed his freedom of speech against the FAST Government.
Whoever embarrassed the village with anti-Government comments made a money making opportunity for the village chiefs.
The next step is to simply lie under a fine mat on the grass lawn to win the sympathy of the Govt. and expect them to splash out a few thousand tala on you.
Not bad for only a few minutes work.
“…..and to hell with the respect of our culture, is that it, dear?
