Deny all we want but surely our Under20s loss to Ireland in a cricket-score margin did help to give our Manu the win on Friday.
It was more than our rugby pride on the line when our ‘big boys’ squared up against the Italians at the Apia Park.
A loss would have sent this rugby-mad country into a mourning spell deeper than the loss of a loved family member.
The survival of rugby as the national sport could very well end up in the dumps or some horrible shameful place.
Surely, all this would have zeroed in on our Manu’s motivation to win at the Apia Park. Why not!
This was its sacred homeground. The fanatical fans were watching. Protect at all costs.
