Villagers tired of living in fear of the COVID pandemic want Samoans living overseas to stay wherever they are and not come back home.
“The countries they’re in are welcome to have them.” “We have enough Samoans in Samoa already.”
Sorry folks but those frustrated moans and groans from the villages are getting louder too.
The wailing starts every time news of a flight returning Samoans mainly from New Zealand or Australia.
Sad and extreme but it’s hard to fault the frightened jitter in the villages.
But there’s a simple fix. Get everyone in the village vaccinated.
There are enough vaccines to go around. Villages will feel safe. No more cold sweat every time a flight lands.
Anyone who doesn’t want to be injected gets booted out. It’s standard village rule enforced by the chiefs and orators.
Maybe that will help wind up the vaccination roll out quickly. Just over 10% of the remaining eligible population are not injected yet but the pace has slowed to below walking speed.
Another possible option is to exile all the non- vaccinated to one of our uninhabited islands.
Their passport out if they want to return home is to be vaccinated otherwise they’re welcome to enjoy their stay for as long as they want.
“…..sounds romantic, you may wanna try it, dear
