The National Council of Churches is calling on all religious denominations to ease up on fundraising activities and demands for contributions from the congregations.
Council Chairman, Rev. Kasiano Leaupepe, appeals to all church leaders to look at changes of activities that involves congregation members making contributions.
“ The effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the national economy is no secret with the loss of employment for many as well as the reduction in working hours,” Rev. Leaupepe appealed.
“While families directly affected are in a struggle to make ends meet at home, there is a general feeling that the churches are not helping out by easing up on money raising activities.”
Rev. Leaupepe is hopeful the churches will make the necessary adjustments in their fundraising commitments to offer some relief to the economic struggles the families are going through.
Holding bingos and other money collecting events should be re-considered, according to the NCC Chairman.
“God knows everything that is going on and any offerings made to Him that adds more sufferings to the families is not going to be well received.
“God wants you to give with your heart.”
Rev. Leaupepe did not name any churches except that he has noted there are still those who are continuing with their fundraising activities is they normally do.
He said the Council has remained in prayers since the coronovarius pandemic to keep Samoa safe from the spread of the deadly disease.
The leaders of Samoa are always in their prayers as well to decide wisely for the safety and wellbeing of the country.
Rec. Leaupepe reminded that the Council can only make the appeal but the churches make their own decisions.
