Health rapid testing and vaccination sites in central Apia and within the TTM Hospital compound were bustling with large turnouts today in response to the COVID pandemic virus breakout out into the community.
Men women and children in face masks kept the health teams busy for most of the day, as seen at the Samoa Tourism Authority in town and at the old Moto’otua Hospital compound.
The response surge follows a Thursday late night official announcement by the Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa that the pandemic virus has broken through into the general community, from an individual who tested positive.
Samoa has been under Yellow Code alert since 12.30pm mid-night Thursday that will end at mid-night tonight Friday when it steps up to Code Red to lockdown the country for the whole weekend up to Tuesday next week 22 March 2022.
There is still no update at the time of this news report on the virus community transmission amidst the spread of unconfirmed reports circulated by the general public of new positive cases.
Shops, banks and money transfer outlets drew large crowds for most of the day and with late night shopping tonight for the working families to stock up before the 4-day lockdown starting tonight.
