The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, CHOGM, in October, steps up pace with the launching of its official logo and website this week.
This was the latest update on the major international gathering hosted by Samoa this year, from the head of the local meeting organiser, Peseta Ms. Noumea Simi, CEO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
“We’re having the official launch at the Samoa Tourism Authority fale this Wednesday and that should get things moving along,” CEO Peseta Noumea told Newsline Samoa Online.
His Majesty King Charles as head of the Commonwealth of Nations is expected to attend but is reportedly not in good health according to international media reports.
“The issue is unresolved at the moment,” Peseta reluctantly admitted, hopeful they can have it sorted soon with the pace of the preparation starting to pick up.
The Commonwealth is made up of 56 member countries with a combined population of 2.4 billion people, almost a third of the world population.
The majority live in India and Pakistan with 94% living in either Asia or Africa.
CHOGM has never been held in the Pacific island region of the Commonwealth until now, when heads of member states gather in Apia in October this year 2024.
“One Resilient Common Future: Transforming Our Common Wealth” is the selected theme discussions at the meeting will be aligned with.
