PRESS RELEASE :  The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China urgently donated a batch of much-needed medical devices for treating COVID-19 infection to the Government of Samoa at the critical point when Samoa is facing the direct threat from suspected COVID-19 positive cases.

The batch of much-needed medical devices for treating COVID-19 infection was donated to Samoa Ministry of Health on Friday, including 2 Intensive Care Ventilators, 50 sets of Breathing Circuit and Mask, 2 Mobile UV Disinfection Vehicles and 25 UV Disinfection Lamps.

These devices may well give Samoa more flexibility in its preparation for possible onset of the virus.

Ventilators are crucial for COVID-19 infection treatment since severe cases can only receive respiratory support through ventilators.

Chinese side shares the same sorrow and pain with the government and people of Samoa and that is why Chinese Embassy acted swiftly to make the urgent procurement within one week despite the fact that ventilators are in shortage of supply worldwide.

The donation is an example of our two countries’ long-time health partnership, as well as the latest piece of the $1.53 million Tala worth PPEs and medical equipment aid from China to Samoa this year.

China has also established the China-Pacific island Countries Anti-Epidemic Cooperation Fund, through which USD$250,000 was provided to Samoa. 6 voluntary experts of the Chinese Medical Team are working in TTM Hospital and supporting in the national COVID-19 response.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Samoa. Just as we have over the past 45 years, China will continue to stand side-by-side with Samoa to jointly tide over the unprecedented health crisis.
