Aiga-ile-Tai Member of Parliament Mulipola Leiataua Laki is not seeking re-election in the April general elections.
Mulipola announced his intentions during his farewell speech as a Member of Parliament last week in the final session of the House before it is dissolved.
The MP was a runaway winner for the Aiga-ile-Tai seat in the 2016 general elections against three other political rivals as an independent candidate before he switched to the HRPP.
He went over the various developments achieved during his 5 year tenure in office that included the construction of a seawall around his home island Manono.
Mulipola did not give any specific reasons for his decision to leave politics except to announce his endorsement of one of the candidates in the race for his seat in Parliament.
Six candidates are contesting the seat for the constituency one of them a woman.
