Badly broken roads at the Falelauniu, Vaitele-uta and Nu’u residential areas are getting fixed once Parliament passed the new 2020-2021 national budget.

The Minister of Works, Papali’i Niko Lee Hang, made the promise during the House debate underway this week on the budget.

“As soon as the budget is passed. Falelauniu, Vaitele-uta, Nu’u and other residential areas around that area, will have their roads fixed under our road repair programme,” Papali’i assured.

The Minister responded in an interjection to another repeated appeal from the Urban West MP Faumuina Wayne Fong, whose constituency covers part of the residential areas.

The MP has been knocking on the Minister’s door for a while now and with the 2021 general elections looming , his wish is finally granted.

Papali’i comforted the MP that he has personally inspected the roads and agreed that they need a lot of work.

Residents have complained of being avoided by buses and taxis because of the poor roads and are forced to walk long ways to access public transport.

The area is one of the fastest growing residential communities in the outskirts of Apia with a place like Falelauniu, tripled from 64 in the 2011

 census to 221 in 2016
