Two baby dogs huddled for warmth and protection from the cold and wet of the night before is a sight that tugs at the heartstrings of any animal lover.
The puppies were either lost or most likely abandoned. Both were baby girls.
The cement fortress of the Matautu-tai to Vaiala seawall, with the ‘talie’ tree providing roof cover, was their home the night before.
Many of the early morning strollers along the sea wall were too preoccupied to notice the pair cowering in a ‘safe corner’.
The touching sight of these innocent baby animals in a struggle to survive draws attention to their human owners.
In an animal kingdom where the demands of survival depend on the fittest, these puppies would be under the fighting care of their mother.
As it turned out they were raised under the domestic responsibility of their human masters.
If it ended up they were abandoned then the burden of guilt is on the owners.
It is common practice for families to abandon girl puppies to avoid the annoying times of mating and the racket they create.
Admittedly it is unfortunate but it is human nature.
So what if man’s best friend is a dog?
Who cares!!
Hope your Christmas was Happy and Merry
